Work Interrupted:
How Violence Undermines Economic Security for Survivors in the Workplace
Overview
The webinar Work Interrupted: How Violence Undermines Economic Security for Survivors in the Workplace explored the intersection between violence and economic security and the ways economic abuse can affect survivors’ ability to maintain stability at work. The session highlighted the everyday challenges survivors may face when their finances, employment, or access to resources are controlled or undermined by an abusive partner.
Through discussion and a fictionalized survivor scenario, participants examined how economic abuse can surface in workplace contexts and the role employers, supervisors, and coworkers can play in responding with empathy and support. The webinar offered practical insights on recognizing potential risk factors, responding to disclosures, and fostering workplace environments that prioritize safety and economic stability for survivors.
Resources developed to expand on these discussions are highlighted in the following section.

ECONOMIC SECURITY TOOLKIT
This toolkit addresses how workplaces can support employees experiencing economic
abuse before, during, and after an employee discloses their experience of economic abuse.
It highlights crucial moments of intervention for employers, supervisors, and human
resource professionals to intercede and provides practical tools for supporting survivors
of economic abuse.
A detailed version of a fictionalized survivor journey scenario, created as a companion
resource to Workplaces Respond’s webinar on addressing economic abuse, is included in
this toolkit’s appendix.
